Check out the 3/50 Project for more information on how to keep your local small businesses alive. I feel so strongly about this right now, and so I'm shouting it from the (proverbial) rooftops. Don't get sucked in to the allure of Wal-mart prices.
What I've learned is that when you shop local, 68 cents of every dollar you spend stays in the community. When you shop at the mall, or other big-box stores, 32 cents stays around. When you shop online, nothing stays in the community!!
And when you shop at Wal-Mart people die. Ok, well not really, maybe, but I think that their spirits die. and people suffer. So that should be enough to keep you away.
